Things To Do On a Berlin to Munich Roadtrip

Roughly 1 hour from Berlin is Spreewald Biosphere Reserve. It's a forested area with a network of canals, traditional wooden houses, and cycling/hiking trails. It also has some local specialities like the Spreewald pickle!

You may remember studying stalactites and stalagmites in school, well at Saalfeld Fairy Grottoes you can see them in real life! They have short guided tours through underground crystal formations, as well as nearby forest hiking trails. It's located just 2.5 hours from Berlin.

Based in one of Germany's best hiking regions is the famous Rennsteig Trail. There are stunning viewpoints along the way such as the Kickelhahn Tower, and it's around halfway in the journey from Berlin to Munich.

Franconian Switzerland is a popular tourist destination, with rolling hills and limestone cliffs. You can try fresh trouts in villages like Pottenstein, as well as visiting beautiful castles and fortresses. There are also more underground caves if you haven't visited enough already on this trip!

You could be mistaken for thinking this was Thailand instead of Germany with the beautiful limestone formations! It's around 100km north of Munich and it's a popular spot for canoeing and kayaking. There are also medieval castle ruins such as Prunn Castle.

Lake Starnberg is popular with swimmers, sailers, and hikers due to beautiful alpine backdrop. It's located just outside of Munich so you can enjoy some peaceful surroundings before you hit the city.
