Things to do in Australia This Spring

Starting off strong, Floriade is Australia's biggest celebration of Spring. It's held annually in Commonwealth Park in Canberra drawing nearly 500k visitors each year. Over 1 million flower bulbs are planted in preparation for the event which results in a beautiful, colourful display. There are food stalls, bars and live music which makes a festival type atmosphere. Best of all - it's free during the day! It closes on October 13th.

Renowned glass artist Dale Chihuly has made his exclusive Aussie debut in Adelaide. The botanic gardens have been completely transformed with colourful glass sculptures dotted around. You have plenty of time to visit, it's on until April 2025 and is free! Ticketed options are available for evenings and to see indoor exhibits, but all of the outside sculptures are free to see.

Outdoor cinemas are popular in most Aussie cities but many don't restart for the season until Summer. Luckily for those based in WA, they're already back in Perth! What's better than a movie along with an iconic skyline view?

Taking place on Saturday November 16th, watch Christmas themed floats parade through the centre of Darwin! The Lord Mayor will be lighting the Christmas Tree to officially mark the beginning of the Christmas period. It's free to attend.

Taking place on Tuesday November 5th is the Melbourne Cup, dubbed as the 'race that stops the nation'. You don't have to be in Melbourne to watch, as it's shown and celebrated up and down the country.

Sydney Streets is celebrated throughout October and November throughout the city. They turn into pedestrianised spaces for walking, shopping, and dining. There are events in Surry Hills, Pyrmont, Darlinghurst, Redfern, Haymarket, Glebe, and Potts Point at weekends.

Cairns Fashion Week takes place from 19th-24th of November, celebrating designers from Far North Queensland and beyond, it's all about inclusivity, diversity, and style. Tickets are available to purchase on their website.

There are events happening in towns and cities all over the country to celebrate Oktoberfest. Australia's oldest and largest festival will take place in Melbourne on October 12th, Brisbane & Newcastle 19th October & Sydney 26th October. Tickets start at $49.
